The Best Ways Of Cleaning Teak Wood Outdoor Furniture

Teak wood outdoor furniture is one of the most expensive and durable in the world. Teak hardwood has a golden honey color when it’s brand new. However, as the years pass, the original color begins to change and because of the constant exposure of the wood to the elements the natural color changes to a slivery gray patina. As a matter of fact, this is how furniture buyers find out exactly how old antique teak furniture is. If you don’t start cleaning teak garden furniture, you might have to live forever with the silvery gray color. You may never be able to see that lustrous color again.

There are some great products on the market for cleaning and protecting teak wood outdoor furniture.  Koverroos  carries Golden Care Teak Cleaner-GT101-a great performing cleaner that works in one step. It comes with a scrubbing pad to work the cleaner deep into the wood. Golden Care is water based. The Golden Care Teak Protector-GT102-lasts four times longer than teak oil. No toxic fumes and its fast and easy to apply. It penetrates the wood for long lasting protection.

Garden teak wood outdoor furniture usually takes around nine months to turn grey if you don’t use a protector. If you haven’t used a protector and your garden furniture has turned grey, there are still a few things you can do to restore the luster. Most experts recommend that you use a cleaning solution mix of 75%/25 % of mild laundry detergent in bleach water. Use a soft brush to brush the furniture using the mixture. Once the furniture is clean, rinse the whole piece in order to remove all the dirt as well as the cleaning solution. This is a great way to clean teak furniture regardless if your furniture has turned grey or not.

Many people might feel inclined to paint their teak wood outdoor furniture. The paint however, is only temporary since the wood secretes natural oil that does not allow paint to adhere very well and may very well cause more problems than it’s worth. Cleaning is a better alternative.

Teak furniture is beautiful to look at but a real pain to keep clean. I will go with wicker or the pretty decorated steel furniture with the soft cushions anytime.
